GSL Is Now Changing A Lot

May 20th, 2011

2011 GSL Tour changes completely in the second half of 2011.

GOM TV announced the future plan of 2011 GSL Tour. Tournaments for code A and code S will be changed in terms of process and schedule. Also, GSTL will be expanded greatly.

“Not only Korea but also other overseas league are changing very fast. So we thought GSL also need some change,” said JungWon Cae the director of GOM TV.

The most outstanding change is that code A, code S, and GSTL run simultaneously. Throughout the weekday the three leages will be aired evenly(code A on Monday, code S on Wednseday, and GSTL on Friday). Final matches will be set on a weekend. But round of 32 and round of 16 for code A will be held from Monday to Friday evenly.

Ro32 for Code S

Code S Ro32 will take duel tournament instead of GOM TV league system.

Duel tournament is pretty instinctive. After first and second group matches, each winner has third match and the winner of it will eventually go to Ro16. Fourth match is kind of a consolation match. each loser of the first and second matches will fight to survive and the winner will have another match against the loser of the fourth match. The winner of the fifth match will be ranked second and the loser third of the group.

Only 4th player will be dropped while the 3rd stays in code S. The 1st and 2nd will be promoted to Ro16.

Code A

Nothing much in code A will change except its play time. Ro32 and Ro16 for code A will be held thoughout weekdays and matches after quarter final will be held every Monday.

Promotion/demotion play-off

A lot of the play-off will change. The winner of code A will get into code S without struggling in the play-off.?Moreover, the champion of MLG will get seed for code S for next season.

So total 15 players, 8 fourth rankers of each group of code S and top 7 from code A, will have a full league in three groups. The winner and second ranker of each group will be promoted to code S and the rest will remain in code A.

GSTL

It will be held on every Thursday and Friday with 10 teams.

It will be run with two leagues each with 5 teams. Top three teams will have a play-off to find who is the best. ?Two matches every week, total 20 matches for 10 weeks, will be aired.

Why Intel Not Found Boxer Team?

January 17th, 2011

The global IT company Intel now sponsors YoHwan Lim(Boxer) as a main sponsor.

Intel has announced it on last 13th and will provide Boxer the annual salary and a practice room for the members.

However Intel has not founded a team with him unlike Orion and SK Telecom had done in the past. Intel Korea cited lack of experience as a reason. “Intel is interested in Boxer and is willing to help him out to achieve a great success. But we do not have any knowledge or experience with regard to founding an e-sports team,” said SungMin Park the executive director of Intel Korea. “We thought ?it is a good time to have a sponsorship for both Boxer and Intel. It will be a great experience for another sponsorship or founding a team later.”
